Richard Dana’s art, for as long as I’ve known it,
has been created by overshooting established universes - of narrative, space/time, aesthetic styles and canons, and, most of all, the boundaries of expectation that all of us bring to seeing a work of contemporary art. We viewers expect to be somewhat shocked, somewhat entertained and somewhat talked down to. With Richard’s work, any set of these reactions is usually overshadowed by a real sense of wonder. We’re witness to transcendent acts, which is always a powerful surprise.J.W. Mahoney
